In 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly. Now, more than 70 years later, it remains a cornerstone of international human rights because of fundamental rights it protects.
Here are just a few highlights:
Article 1 – All people are born free and equal
Article 2 – Human rights apply to everyone
Article 7 – Protections from discrimination
Article 18 – Freedom of thought
Article 19 – Freedom of opinion and expression
Article 20 – Freedom of association
Article 21 – The right to political participation, and free and fair elections
